This is a composition that was created as part of an ambisonic art installation. I created it based on the concept album Pelagial, by the german metal band The Ocean. It takes us on a journey through the 5 pelagic and benthic zones of the ocean (sea levels): Epipelagic Zone, Mesopelagic Zone, Bathypelagic Zone, Abyssopelagic Zone and the Hadalpelagic Zone.

In this composition, we will experience a shift in tonality, frequency and movement as we venture deeper through the sea levels. Oceanic wildlife will be more absent and vague, static and dark soundscapes will replace it. The entire composition is split into five segments, representing each zone. The length of these segments in minutes compared to each other is proportional to the length of the actual zones (depth levels) compared to each other in distance, in real life. This composition was originally created for a higher order ambisonics setup, but has been decoded to a binaural format for the purpose of public viewing.
